Investigating Truck Accidents

Indiana Trucking Accident Lawyers

Jacobs Law LLC in Muncie and Indianapolis

One of the first and most important steps in helping a person get financial compensation after they've been injured in a truck accident is investigating the accident to establish cause and fault.

Because interstate trucking is such a regulated industry, there are some aspects of truck accident cases that are easier to investigate and other areas that are much more difficult. It helps to work with an attorney who has experience handling truck accident cases, someone who really understands the unique laws that regulate interstate trucking, trucking companies, van lines and truck drivers.

The personal injury lawyers at Jacobs Law LLC, have more than 25 years of experience tackling tough personal injury and wrongful death cases involving semi trucks, tractor trailers, 18 wheelers, and big rigs.

If you or a loved one was injured in a truck accident, we can help. Contact our Muncie or Indianapolis law office or call toll-free 800-915-9690 to speak with an experienced Indiana personal injury attorney about your case.

Investigating the Causes of Indiana Truck Accidents

We work with investigators and expert accident reconstructionists to gain a better understanding of how the truck accident occurred and who may have been at fault. Investigation is essential to proving that an accident was caused by negligence or reckless behavior.

Truck factors: Improper load balancing can cause a truck to roll over, blocking several lanes of traffic at once and causing a chain reaction of collisions. Inadequate truck or trailer maintenance (failing to check truck tires, brakes or lights) can cause an accident, particularly if a truck is over its weight limit, causing brake failure or tire failure. Defective, broken or missing tie downs (or other restraint devices) can allow loads on open trailer beds to fall off, striking other motorists.

Truck driver factors: One of the most common truck accident problems relating to drivers is driving too long without a rest period and some drivers may falsify logs to hide it. Other driver-specific factors can include truck driver drug or alcohol use, driving too fast for weather conditions, failing to follow traffic regulations. Reckless driving, such as taking a turn too fast or too sharp, can cause a truck to jackknife onto its side.
