While most of these accidents are not fatal, close to 4 million people each year end up requiring medical attention for the injuries they sustain.

What conditions can lead to slips, trips and falls?

Common causes of slips, trips and falls include the following:

  • Uneven floors, stairs, ramps or pavements

How to prevent slips, trips and falls

Keeping the floor or ground clear of debris or wet conditions can help prevent slip and fall accidents. You should always wear appropriate footwear with non-slip soles and be alert at all times when walking. Avoid distractions like looking at your phone while walking.

If you have to walk on a slippery surface, take slower, shorter steps and keep your weight over the front half of your feet instead of your heels.
